As one of the founding members of Amsted Rail’s ASF-K de México, Ruben Tellez Giron Reyes has spent nearly two decades shaping the quality standards that have made the facility one of the most respected foundries in the global rail industry. Ruben was there from day one, bringing 16 years of automotive industry experience to help launch a plant that would set new benchmarks for excellence.

When the opportunity arose to help start ASF-K de México in 2005, Ruben saw it as an ideal chance to apply his expertise to a new industry while moving closer to family and returning to the railroad tracks that had fascinated him since childhood.

Transforming Culture, Elevating Standards

Ruben’s greatest challenge came in the early years when he was tasked with transforming operations inherited from a previous company that had struggled with quality issues. He worked to shift the mindset from simply completing tasks to embracing a philosophy of excellence that centered around understanding customers, refusing to accept or ship substandard products, and taking pride in every casting that left the facility.

The results speak for themselves. In its first year, the company achieved AAR certification and has since earned recognition as one of the top foundries in the rail industry. Today, ASF-K de México is known internationally for its outstanding quality results and customer satisfaction.

A Legacy of Growth

With a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and a master’s degree in quality and productivity from Instituto Tecnológico de Monterrey, plus certifications including Six Sigma Black Belt and AAR Lead Auditor, Ruben brings deep technical expertise to his role. But he defines success more broadly—as helping others achieve their goals while maintaining balance across all aspects of life. He’s put this belief into practice throughout his career, coaching his team to grow into leadership roles throughout the organization.

With two decades at the company and retirement on the horizon, Ruben remains focused on challenging himself and developing those around him. He sees ASF-K de México positioned for continued growth, adapting to market demands with new products and new talent.
