Fresh out of university with a foreign trade degree, Alejandra Camarillo Palomares was searching for an opportunity in international business when she discovered a bilingual administrative assistant position at ASF-K de Mexico, part of Amsted Rail, in 2007. She viewed it as the perfect opportunity to get her foot in the door with an international company while practicing her English.
Within months of joining the company, she expressed her interest in joining the import-export department, a move that defined her career trajectory. From shipping assistant to import-export supervisor, then production planning coordinator, her responsibilities have grown dramatically. Nearly 18 years later, her strategic career decisions have led to her current role as Foreign Trade and Logistics Manager.
When she started, Amsted Rail serviced just a few customers and destinations. Today, Alejandra oversees complex international logistics operations reaching markets like India, Brazil, China, and beyond. Her department manages both exports and imports that have been essential to the company’s growth.
“We constantly have exciting projects all over the world that challenge us to improve ourselves,” Alejandra says. “Our products are distributed on all continents, and there is always something new—new people, new markets, new customers, new regulations. We are always learning.”
Alejandra’s leadership philosophy centers on empowering her team through autonomy and support. She strengthens her team members’ self-confidence while providing necessary resources and tools, always promoting both giving and receiving feedback. In her department, every idea counts and every effort multiplies, fostering collaborative success.
At Amsted Rail, we take pride in our rich culture of innovation and ownership that has propelled us to the forefront of the industry. Our employees are our greatest asset, and we are committed to creating a work environment that offers everyone the chance for success, growth and happiness—on and off the job.
