Building Stronger Teams and Smarter Manufacturing

Production line workers are the most important asset in the organization, and many times they simply need to be heard.”

For the past seven years, José Julian Tovar Rivera has served as Production Manager at Amsted Rail’s ASF-K de México, where he leads the casting parts production area across scrap yard, melting plants, molding plants, heat treatments, non-foundry products and finishing operations. His path to Amsted Rail was shaped by an appreciation for the rail industry’s role in enabling large-scale and efficient transportation of goods. He values how engineering innovation in rail systems contributes to sustainability by reducing carbon emissions and traffic congestion, as well as the continuous learning that comes from the complexity of rail operations.

Before joining Amsted Rail, Julian built experience in an aluminum foundry, where he served in quality, production and continuous improvement roles. He holds a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering from Hidalgo University, along with professional certifications including Six Sigma Black Belt from Air Academy and Improvement Management training from ICAMI.

Developing People and Strengthening Processes

Julian defines his most meaningful contributions through the development of his team. He focuses on teaching new ways to carry out daily and scheduled tasks, emphasizing the importance of interaction between departments and building business sense. His leadership centers on empathy, active listening, team unity and effective communication, which he believes are essential to achieving strong results.

One of the workplace challenges he has focused on is creating space for production line workers to share their needs and perspectives. He believes listening closely to their needs is critical to building a safe, sustainable and efficient manufacturing process.

“Production line workers are the most important asset in the organization, and many times they simply need to be heard.”

Since joining Amsted Rail, Julian has expanded his own capabilities as well. He has strengthened his communication skills, learned to lead large work teams, increased his direct engagement with operators on the production line and developed the ability to respond quickly to fast-moving operational needs.

Julian sees success as meeting production goals while maintaining strong performance in quality, productivity, scrap and safety. He also believes success requires consistency, even in repetitive tasks, and a commitment to building a manufacturing process that is both sustainable and profitable.

His greatest motivation comes from his family, who he describes as a pillar of strength, and from seeing members of his work team grow and align with his philosophy of working for the common good.

In the coming years, Julian sees himself continuing to develop as a production manager at ASF-K de México, further strengthening his team and leading within the organization. He envisions Amsted Rail advancing through more efficient, automated and safe manufacturing processes supported by continuous improvement and growing operational capabilities.

Julian is proud to help maintain the quality standards that distinguish Amsted Rail in the railway market. For anyone considering a career here, his message is simple: this is a company with a strong and human culture where commitment, safety and teamwork are valued, and where dedicated people grow.
