Lubricants
Grease lubrication plays a critical role in proper
bearing function. The right choice of lubricant can have a dramatic
effect on the longevity of bearing components.
Grease consists of base oil, a thickener, and additives. The
base oil lubricates the raceway surfaces. The thickener holds
the base oil in suspension and allows for its slow release. Additives
include corrosion inhibitors and Extreme Pressure (EP) additives.
The free flowing grease that BRENCO specifies assures that the
raceway surfaces are coated with base oil at all times. This
is true even with railcars that have long periods of inactivity
such as tank cars. The advantage to having this oil coating is
prevention of water etching or rusting of raceway components.
