Subject: Ultrasonic Testing of Wheels in Service

TO THE MEMBERS AND PRIVATE CAR OWNERS                                                                                             File Number: AC-2283

Please direct your attention to Circular Letter c-9526 which was issued on October 28, 2002.  That letter solicited comments on a proposal to revise Rule 41 to allow the use of ultrasonic testing methods to detect and remove defective wheels from service.

This is to advise that no comments were received to the solicitation and as such the proposed Rule changes become effective on January 1, 2003 and will be included in the 2003 Field Manual.
