Subject: Clarification - Revisions to Secondhand Axle Journal Diameter Tolerances

Subsequent to the issuance of Circular Letter c-7643 on April 10, 1991 which permitted secondhand axles to be 0.0005 - inch oversize of current specifications, comments have been received regarding the requirements for axles repaired by the M-967 process.

It should be noted that, although at this time axles repaired by the M-967 process are considered secondhand, these repairs must be within the prescribed tolerances for new axles. Any potential rule conflicts will be considered by the Wheels, Axles, Bearings, and Lubrication Committee.
