(c-7404)

Gentlemen:

As a result of a review of comments received in response to circular letter c-7366, dated March 31, 1989, the Mechanical Division General Committee hereby rescinds the SAE Grade 5 cap screw implementing measures outlined in Items 1 through 5 of the above circular, and affirms the effectivity of the provisions of Item 6 applicable to secondhand cap screws as published in circular letter c-7384, dated May 19, 1989.

Therefore, SAE Grade 2 cap screws shall remain the industry standard and may be lubricated, prior to application to a new bearing assembly, with either AAR M-942 Journal Roller Bearing Grease, AAR M-963 Journal Box Lubricating Oil (car oil), or equivalent lubricant that does not promote flash rusting.

Sincerely,

Leavitt A. Peterson
